Anaconda

ABOUT ANACONDA:
Located just west of Butte, Anaconda grew around the Anaconda Copper Mining Company’s smelter. A symbol of the smelter, closed in 1980, still stands today in the 585-ft. smelter smokestack, the tallest free-standing masonry structure in the world. The downtown area features turn-of-the-century buildings, including a large early-day movie house, period street lamps, a courthouse situated at the end of Main Street, and beautiful park. To the west of Anaconda is the pristine Pintler Wilderness with its snow-capped peaks and high-mountain Georgetown Lake. Also close to Anaconda is Lost Creek State Park, a canyon park with steep limestone cliffs rising over 1,200 ft. from the canyon floor.
