Charles M. Russell Natl Wildlife Refuge

The Charles M. Russell NWR encompasses over a million acres that spans about 125 air miles along the Missouri River, from the Fort Peck Dam west to the boundary with the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The refuge's expansive badlands, cottonwood river bottoms, forested coulees, sagebrush steppes, and mixed-grass prairies appear out of the sea that is the northern Great Plains.

To film in Charles M. Russell NWR, commercial filmmakers and photographers will need to apply for a permit with the refuge’s administrative office using the Commercial Activities Special Use Permit Application.

Visit the refuge's website for detailed information about the refuge. Visit FWS permits website to learn more about their permitting process. Also visit the Montana Film Office permits page to view maps and permitting info and the permit application.
